Situated on the corner of bustling Tanjong Katong and quieter Boscombe Road, a little cafe is upping the cool factor of an otherwise plain laneway, offering all day fare that’s way more elevated than your typical coffee house.
Playing on its market theme, Laneway’s look is more cheery than your typical hipster hangout, with an abundance of shiny white subway tiles accented with fruit and vegetable crates. A hodge podge of furnishings are accommodating, making the space practically built for an any time hangout session. From the menu, there’s a good spread of bites and heartier options, all trending in the latest cafe culture. The coffee is beautifully done as well, and pairs with the food perfectly.
The signature Pulled Pork Burger is the unanimous must-try dish, gaining innumerable Instagram likes and real life loves. It starts with a 12 hour braised pork cut, shredded into tender morsels and drowned in a rich, beer-laced barbecue sauce. Sandwiched in a soft bun along with crunchy purple cabbage slaw, the sandwich soaks up the tangy BBQ sauce and plays it against the sweetness of the coleslaw and bread. Coupled with a generous mound of sharp truffle fries and some greens to round it out, the plate is completely delicious.
The other notable dish is the Scrambled Eggs. Served on toast with mushrooms, this super simple staple has rarely been so temptingly silky on the palate. Finish your meal with something sweet from the bakery case. Take the Chocolate Mess for instance, which is constantly being revamped to new levels of decadence, and is always a good idea. (Mar 2015)
