The Botanic Gardens is the perfect setting for the idyllic, zen-like concept of Food for Thought, where good-hearted social enterprise meets great-tasting, hearty fare.
Donating a portion of their proceeds to non-profit causes, Food For Thought has just the genuine charm to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside without being preachy. The look of the eatery is earthy yet modern, with warm woods, high ceilings and giant windows drinking in the natural light, framed by the emerald tones of the gardens. A neighbouring playground makes this any kid’s dream restaurant, while the grown-ups will fall for wisps of whimsy like recycled milk-tin lamps and glass jar terrariums that keep things light-hearted and playful. The restaurant’s signature wall is emblazoned with their mantras of “Love Your Family” and “Savour Every Minute”, making for a lovely reminder as well as a prime photo backdrop.
Food wise, there’s plenty of thoughtful plates that aim to satisfy. From the all-day breakfast section, the Dark Chocolate & Mixed Berries Pancakes are lusciously delish; a see saw of flavours between the tart fruit and rich cocoa. The Slow Roasted Pulled Pork Burger is another fave, while the Honeyed Hoisin Braised Baby Back Ribs is another great pick for its sticky glaze and cheesy mushroom gratin grounding.
This is also the place to get sustainably grown and locally sourced coffee and teas – a perfect cup to accompany one of their many sinful desserts. With a tailored menu of consistently delectable food, in the end, ordering at Food for Thought doesn’t take much thinking at all! (Jan 2015)
